This white paper provides useful
background information on network fax technology. It will help you
decide whether your company needs a network fax solution and which
solution suits your company best.
Full integration with Exchange server...
Faxing manually is out of date. Research shows that a professional fax
server can save your organization substantial costs, whilst improving
your customer service and image. FAXmaker for Exchange is an
enterprise quality fax server that can deliver on this promise. With
more than 70,000 fax servers shipped since its launch, FAXmaker is an
industry leader when it comes to reliability, robustness, ease of use
& administration, and price.
FAXmaker for Exchange version 12 is a native connector for Microsoft
Exchange server. This seamless integration allows users to send and
receive faxes directly from Microsoft Outlook, making it easy to use
and learn. FAXmaker for Exchange is easier to manage too - user
administration can be done from the Exchange administrator. The result
is increased efficiency and lower total cost of ownership.

Features for the user
Send and receive faxes from
Outlook
Faxes can be sent and received from within the Microsoft Outlook
client. To send a fax, users can either enter a message in
Microsoft Outlook or the Exchange client, or print from their word
processor to the FAXmaker printer, after which the Outlook New
message dialog pops up automatically. The user now selects the
recipient(s) of the fax from the Outlook Contacts list (address
book). After clicking on the ‘Send’ button, the fax is sent out
and the user will receive a transmission report in his or her
inbox.

Sending a fax is just like
sending an email |
FAX from any Windows application
No matter which Windows application is used, anything a user creates
can be faxed. The user simply prints the document to the FAXmaker
printer. Files, for instance a Microsoft Word document, can also be
attached to the fax. Each user can customize their own cover page
incorporating a company logo and even their own signature.
Supports Outlook contacts
There is no need to keep a separate fax address book - just select
the recipient’s “Business Fax” entry from the Outlook contacts
list or the Global Address Book. In this way you do not need to
duplicate address entries. Also, Because fax recipients appear in
the e-mail address book, users can interchange fax and e-mail
addresses, making it easy for the user to broadcast information to
a number of people, whether they have an email or a fax address.

Use your Outlook contacts
list for fax recipients |
Attach any Office document
Users can attach any Office document to their message. This document
will then be rendered to fax format at the server and faxed out. A
document can also be faxed using the ‘Send file’ command, which is
available in all Microsoft Office applications and many others.
FAX annotation
Incoming faxes can also be edited. This gives users the possibility to
stamp their ‘Approval’ on faxed documents or add their own comments.
The edited faxes can then be returned, or routed to another recipient.
FAX broadcasting using Microsoft Office Mail merge
Using the mail merge facility of Microsoft Word/Office, you can send
personalized fax broadcasts to any amount of users. Because Microsoft
Office supports ODBC, the recipient list can be retrieved from any
data source, including Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Access and many
more.
Features for the administrator
FAXmaker: The zero admin fax server!
FAXmaker for Exchange 9 was designed from the ground up to minimize
the administration of it. It integrates with Active Directory and
therefore does not require the administration of a separate fax user
database. User related settings can be applied to windows users or
groups directly.
Supports Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003 & Microsoft Exchange 5.5
FAXmaker for Exchange is available for both Exchange 2000/2003 and
Exchange 5.5 (v7). Currently FAXmaker for Exchange 2000/2003 is the only
affordable native Exchange 2000/2003 connector.
Robust, multi-line Windows NT/2000/2003 FAX Server
FAXmaker includes a native Windows NT/2000/2003 fax server that runs as a
service and does not require a dedicated computer. Unlike other
'NT/2000' fax products, FAXmaker does NOT run on Windows 95/98/ME, and
has been therefore optimized to take advantage of the stability &
security features unique to Windows NT/2000/2003. Four fax lines are
supported as standard, and this can be expanded to up to 32 lines per
Fax server.
List of supported devices...
Native ISDN support
FAXmaker's natively supports ISDN, allowing you to use inexpensive
active ISDN cards and get multi line faxing and inbound routing at a
fraction of the price of using multi line fax boards.
Remote user administration & fax server
monitoring/administration
FAXmaker for Exchange can be remotely configured and managed,
substantially easing the network administrators tasks. In addition,
authorized users can start and stop the fax server remotely, as well
as view the progress of faxes.
Automated FAX delivery / inbound fax routing
FAXmaker can automatically route incoming faxes to the user’s mailbox
using one of four methods: CSID, DID/DTMF, OCR or Line routing. CSID
determines the recipient based on the FAX ID, DID/DTMF on the basis of
the dialed number (requires DID trunks or ISDN), and OCR by searching
for names and keywords in a fax. Line routing allows faxes to be
routed based on which line they were received on. Faxes can also be
manually routed, or assigned to a network printer per installed fax
port.
Auto print
Each fax that is received or sent with FAXmaker can be automatically
printed on an assigned network printer. FAXmaker can also print out
transmission reports and miniature print outs of each sent fax.
Call accounting
FAXmaker can cost all your phone calls and apportion them to specific
users or departments. Companies can also make use of billing codes.
FAX archiving
Faxes can be archived for back-up and quick retrieval. With the
optional OCR module, users can also search for a fax by specifying
keywords.
Support for Windows 2000 fax drivers
FAXmaker can use the Windows 2000 fax drivers, which means that
FAXmaker 2000 can share a modem with another communications
application such as RAS. In addition, it supports 2D faxing (faster
fax transmission) as well as boasting wider modem support.
Support for the HP Digital sender
If you have an HP Digital sender, you can use its interface to easily
send paper documents by fax.

FAXmaker can save your company considerable costs by leveraging
Exchange Server’s least cost routing feature. FAXmaker will send the
fax to the Exchange server which can send out the fax at the least
cost.
Application integration
FAXmaker also includes an API based on COM. Using COM, any application
can be programmatically fax enabled. A samples for Microsoft Word is
