Last year, the closed-circuit TV camera market generated about $US1.5 billion ($A2.54 billion) in revenue, according to J.P. Freeman, a market researcher in Newtown, Connecticut. While sophisticated cameras that use technologies like internet connectivity are only about 10 per cent of the market today, they are growing at 30 per cent a year, or twice the rate of standard security cameras, said Joe Freeman, president of the firm. By 2005, the market could top $US500 million in the US alone.

    DALLAS (April 13, 2000) - Convenience store chain Kum & Go improved security in several of its urban Omaha, Nebraska locations while testing remote, interactive video surveillance technology in the stores, according to Steve Kimmes, vice president of operations for parent company Krause Gentle Corporation, West Des Moines, Iowa. The technology allows store managers and company officials to view store operations from their home computers or other remote locations in real time. According to Kimmes, employees and customers felt much safer knowing someone was keeping an eye on the store. "Locations once considered unsafe are now visited by more families, female consumers and white-collar people."

    SAN FRANCISCO (June 12, 2001) - Management of three CyBelle’s Pizza restaurants are relying on a remote monitoring system to supervise locations from one central office, ensuring employee honesty and improving service levels. Restaurant management can access audio and video – including cash register data footage –captured by cameras and microphones placed throughout the establishments. The solution “gives us one window into all restaurant sites across the city,” said Timmy Yan, owner of multiple CyBelle’s Pizza franchises.

  • Bath & Body Works’ Remote Monitoring Halves Shrink by Denise Power from ExecutiveTechnology.com
    REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (October 25, 2002) - Having reduced shrink losses – by up to 51% in some stores – Bath & Body Works continues to identify locations that can benefit from its video monitoring solution. The system is currently installed in 65 of the chain’s 1,650 units. Bath & Body Works is a division of Limited Brands, Columbus, Ohio. Martinez told Executive Technology the decision to invest in the system was driven as much by shrink concerns as it was by safety issues. Deployment of the system is limited to problem stores suffering not only from high shrink rates, but also crime and safety risks. In addition, Martinez said, Bath & Body Works has been able to reduce its reliance on security guards, slashing that line-item expense by 74%.
